Red Ants vying for team history

September 20th, 2007, 2:38 pm by Peter Rasmussen

A Progreso win at Raymondville Friday will give the Red Ants their first 4-0 start in school history.

Although the team milestone will look good on paper, the win will have far greater meaning. A victory over Raymondville will go a long way in determining if the Red Ants are ready to be competitive.

The 3-0 start is great but two of the those wins came against lowly MMA and St. Joseph. The Week 0 Mission victory will always be remembered at the border town but success will be measured by what the Red Ants do against their Class 3A foes.

I predicted the Red Ants would go 4-6. They should beat Santa Maria next week and have a chance against Lyford the following week. In the end, however, I just don’t see Progreso doing much during district.

I have been wrong before and the Red Ants did beat Mission.
