RE-PETEFollowing high school sports all yearArchive for October 19th, 2007Rio Hondo cloese first half with FGOctober 19th, 2007, 6:31 pm by Peter RasmussenKicker Jack chavez connected on a 31-yard FG attempt to give the Bobcats a 17-0 lead after two quarters. Perez is getting nowhereOctober 19th, 2007, 6:21 pm by Peter RasmussenThe Hidalgo QB has only 11 yards rusing with only 3 minutes to go before the half. The Bobcats defense is doing a good of sitting back and letting Perez come to them. He has also completed only two passes in 10 attempts. RH takes 14-0 leadOctober 19th, 2007, 6:13 pm by Peter RasmussenRB Jacob Martinez scored on a 4-yard run with 5 minutes left in the first half. His run was set up by a 42-yard pass completion from QB Joseph Vela to WR Shane Eizember. Bobacts lead 14-0. Both offenses sputteringOctober 19th, 2007, 6:00 pm by Peter RasmussenThere has been may dropped passes and timid play from both quarterbacks. Both offenses are doing a good job of amking the defenses look good. Both defenses playing toughOctober 19th, 2007, 5:55 pm by Peter RasmussenOther than the 45-yard TD scamper by RH RB Jacob Martinez both defenses were stout in the first quarter. Both have recorded interceptions. Rio Hondo leads 7-0 after the first 12 minutes of play. Hidalgo has only 21 yards and Rio Hondo has 66. RH strikes firstOctober 19th, 2007, 5:33 pm by Peter RasmussenRH scored on a 45 run by RB Jacob Martinz. The junior went untoched all the way to the end zone. RH leads 7-0 with 9:38 left in the first quarter. Game UnderwayOctober 19th, 2007, 5:27 pm by Peter RasmussenRio Hondo won the toss and will receive. Continue checking in for updates on the GOW. Pirates fans slow arrivingOctober 19th, 2007, 5:15 pm by Peter RasmussenSomeone must have forgotten to tell Hidalgo fans that their team was playing in the Game of the Week. Maybe they will show late because it is a long drive but there is a very empty visitors section with 15 minutes to go before the game starts. The home side is already completely full. I like what I seeOctober 19th, 2007, 5:09 pm by Peter RasmussenThe game hasn’t started and I am already impressed by Rio Hondo. I know this has been tossed around this year, but Rio Hondo really does have a feel of a Class 5A program. I wonder how the Bobcats would fare against E-E (Class 4A) or 5A teams. Vela suited upOctober 19th, 2007, 5:00 pm by Peter RasmussenRio Hondo coach Gus Cavazos has been playing coy all week about whether or not his quarterback Joseph Vela will play. I suspect Vela will play. He is in uniform. I think Cavazos was just trying to mess with the Pirates’ heads a little. Vela suffered a foot injury two weeks ago in practice and hasn’t played since. There hasn’t been a real good explination of the injury other than it was some sort of sprain to his foot. But again he is in uniform and taking practice snaps and looks OK Continue checking in for updates. Game starts in 30 minutes. |
