Mercedes went for it on fourth down at thier own 40 and lost two yards.

Calallen took the ball to the 6  but Mercedes held tough.

Wildcats take the ball 52 yards and score on a Dustin Vaughn 6-yard run but K Anthony Cantu missed the extra point.

Wildcats lead 24-22 with 5:14 left in the third quarter.

Wildcats turn the ball over on downs. Mercedes had the ball on thier own 29.

Behind three TDs by Alex Trevino, the Tigers lead 22-18.

Trevino has suhed for two TDs and scored a third on a 90-yard reception.

Once Trevino got past the Wildcats defenders there was no one going to catch him. He is one of the fastest Class 4A 200-meter runners in the state.

I have to commend Tigers coach Gilbert Leal for his risk taking. He attempted an onside kick after their the Tigers first TD. On their second drive he went for it on fourth down. The Tigers went for 2 when they frist took the lead.

Valley teams need to show they are not afraid of the Coastal Bend schools.

Lets see what happens in the second half and if the Tigers could pull off the shocker.

Anthony Cantu connected on a 27-yard FG but Mereceds leads 22-18 with 1:55 to go in before the half.

The Tigers take the lead again. Trevino punches it in from the 1-yard line to give the Tigers a 22-15 lead with 5:28 left in the first half.

Wildcats QB Jeramie Marek scored on an 8-yard run and then found TE John Jordan to tie the game at 15 with 9:48 left before the half.

Albert Chavez connects with Alex Trevino for a 90-yard TD pass and then finds Rick Izaguirre for a 2-point conversion.

Trevino burned the Calallen secondary in every sense of the word.
