Lady Bulldogs Dominance

While Jason McDaniel and I were filming our weekly web cast last week, he asked me an interesting question. H e wanted to know who I thought would go the furthest in the playoffs.
Obviously the two top-ranked teams in the Valley (No.1 McAllen High and No. 2 Harlingen South) should be in the Class 5A regional tournament. No questions asked in my opinon.
( I am not sure how the bracket shapes up in basketball. This is my first year covering high school basketball. But I think the only way McHi and South would play each other would be in the regional final. If anyone knows, let me know).
After that, the Lady Bulldogs have the clear advantage. I think if they played the Lady Hawks, McHi would win.
McHi has a legitimate shot at reaching the state tourney no matter who they played. McHi making history looks promising considering their outstanding showing in both the Jostens and Broder Bash tourneys.
They have depth, coaches only dream of. I think what sets them a part from the rest of the Valley and South, for that matter is their size and experience. These girls have been playing together for some time and have the size to be physical inside. Their starting five is loaded with talent and you dont really get any better than Andi Garza as a leader.
Can McHi finally be the first girls team in any sport from the Valley that breaks throughto the state tourney? There is stiff competitionat at regionals but I think it looks promising. What do you think?

Peter,
You can find last year’s 5A playoff bracket here http://www.uil.utexas.edu/athletics/brac…)
As you can see McAllen will have to face the fourth best team in district 29 which could obviously be a blowout. Then they will have to face a valley team which would be another win. Eventually they are going to play a Laredo team for the chance to go to the regional tournament where they will have a rematch with Churchill. McHi has a very good chance of winning this game and if they do they will more than likely play either Carroll or Wagner.
Indeed McHi does have a better chance to advance the furthest in the playoffs and a very realistic shot at the State Tournament.
What McHi has this year is alot of experience.
McHi returns some of the best players in the valley.
Andi Garza, Rebecca Valdez and Damaris Rodriguez are four year starters. Not to mention Ali Bills and Lyndsie Currie being a scoring threat every time they touch the ball.
Lyndsie Currie, Andi Garza, and Damaris Rodriguez are also returning all Valley and all Region players. All these girls have a potential to repeat that feat this year.
I believe that McHi will make the regional tournament and regional final because they now have what has been missing the past couple of years, playoff experience. Damaris Rodriguez returns this year with the only valley player to have the most playoff experience. Remember that she went to the regional tournament when she was a freshmen and has been going three rounds deep every year since when she was at Hidalgo. Not to forget Andi and Lyndsie are on a scoring streak that can make all the difference come playoff time. McHi is also riding a lengthy winning streak and has momentum on their favor.
I am very excited for these next couple of weeks and wish McHi the best of luck in the playoffs this year.
Go Dawgs!!
I am really excited at this year’s team because
