Quiet Ending

The regular season of girls basketball is about over and Tuesday had the potential to be a really crazy night.
If Donna would have won, their would have been a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots. I don’t even want to think what would have happened if Sharyland lost. I had a discussion with Monitor Sports Editor Wade Baker about the scenarios and we couldn’t figure it out.
Weslaco took care of business in District 32-5A or it could have been a four-way tie in District 32-5A . It is only a three-way tie (Hanna, Lopez and San Benito).
La Villa lost so there will not be a two-way tie for first in District 31-3A.
THURSDAY
Edinburg North needs a win and/or a PSJA North loss and the Lady Bobcats are in. The odds are stacked agianst both Norths because they play Top 10 teams Edinburg Economedes and Edinburg High, respectively. I guess it really favors Edinburg North because of both lose, Lady Bobcats are in.
If both Economedes and Edinburg High are tied, they will have to either flip or have a seeding game for second place. I am not sure what the district plan calls for.
MY RESPONSE
There were a couple of comments to my “Seaosn winding down blog.” See below.
I am not sure what huh? (that’s the name on the comment) means when he or she says I should cover all the playoff basketball games or that I have slacked off.
I cover a game every Tuesday and Friday and Mr. Baker makes sure that we have someone cover a game every Thursday and Saturday. I think we missed one Thursday game because the sked was weak.
I hope you know there are 23 teams in the playoffs and I am only one person. Our entire staff does not cover basketball like football. We will cover as many games as we can. You have to also remember more than 20 boys teams that will also make the playoffs. So we have double the number of teams in the playoffs than in football.
As far as coach Carmona being the best coach in the Valley. Maybe you should re-read what I wrote. I said she might be.
She has done a really good job with the injuries her team faced. I don’t think they have the most talented team, but the Lady Bobcats are playing extremely well and I think a dangerous team in the playoffs. Its hard to say who is the best coach in the Valley but she has had her fair share of accomplishments.

Yea Yea Yea its all great and all, but why can’t the Lady Patriots get any love from you? We need more than a one liner. Come on Peter- and I’m happy to see more intrest in the blog. Hey if you need help covering games, just ask - there are sooooo many of us faithful basketball fanatics that can cover play by play if asked. ( Funny we are the ones that call in scores for an entire district before your staff gets them)
