Bracket Time

February 10th, 2008, 11:54 pm by Peter Rasmussen

Its not March Madeness but some might think its crazier. There are 128 teams in the Texas UIL CLass 5A girls basketball bracket. That is double the amount of teams in the NCAA tourney. What I like about brackets is that there is only one winner.

I was looking at the Region IV bracket. There are some good teams who will not make the regional tourney from the non-valley portions of the bracket. Carroll is the top team in the Coastal Bend but is on a second-round collision course with the No. 2 team from the Alamo City, San Antonio Madison.

San Antonio’s top team, Wagner, could have trouble with Warren, who plays C.C. Ray in Round 1, in area play.

Some interesting first round Valley games

Hanna at Economedes: The Lady Jags arent playing thier best basketball an dyou don’t know witch Lady Golden Eagles team will show up.

Edinburg High vs. Weslaco: The Lady Bobcats are a hot right right now but Weskaco could be dangerous

Looking ahead

A South-Edinburg High game is looming in the Regional Quarterfinals. Edinburg only lost by nine to South a couple weeks ago.

McAllen Memorial could give South some trouble in the seocnd round. The Lady Mustangs gave the Lady Hawks their toughest competition out of Valley teams, losing by only seven.

Realingment

Realingment worked out well for the Valley. Not a whole lot of traveling during the regular season. But realingment can be a headache for other areas. Western Texas is having travel issues.
